AECI, Association of Independent Contractual Experts, is an association of consultants performing contract management tasks in the construction industry. These professionals have all gained a significant practical experience in contract and risk management.
The academic education of our experts is diverse, mainly technical but also financial or legal (certified by masters’ degrees). Their experience in a world-wide range of projects enabled them to gain or confirm a good command of professional English as well as of the business relationships and practices of several countries in Europe, Americas, Africa, Asia.
Their professional careers took place entirely in the construction industry where they have been assigned crucial duties and responsibilities. Their references thus cumulate nearly 500 years of project life in complex configurations, involving design as well as construction stages sometimes rehabilitation or even operation of various infrastructures.
The spectrum of the related projects extends from small public works to large design-and-build projects both in France and internationally. These are frequently ruled by contract documentation in English (based on FIDIC, NEC or other models). In these different cases, our experts have analysed and integrated the different aspects of the contract: design and production methods, organization and programme, finance, guarantees, etc.
They intervened not only during the early stages of the projects (preliminary design, tender documentation and submission to identify and assess the risks), but also during the execution of the works (to safeguard the rights of the concerned party) and finally for the acceptance and operation and maintenance of these works.
They were required to notify significant events, identify and assess unforeseen technical constraints and establish or formulate an opinion on requests for compensation related to additional works, extension of time and various complaints.
Being self-employed, they can provide contractual technical assistance to the various actors of the project (Contractors, Designers, Employers…) sometimes working as a team with their client’s advisers (such as lawyers). Their experience is also looked for in judicial proceedings or assessments for insurance companies. Many participate in mediation, conciliation or arbitration to settle the dispute outside the courtroom. Some are also teaching in engineering schools.
Above all, they remain independent and apply strict ethical rules, in particular, protecting confidential information and avoiding any conflict of interest. Their small operating structures (one-person) allow them to present competitive rates.
